Five-day AICTE workshop in NEHU
SHILLONG: The Department of Biomedical Engineering, NEHU will organise a five-day AICTE Training and Learning Academy (ATAL) workshop on ‘Robotics for Healthcare’ from November 4 to 8 under the sponsorship of AICTE, Govt. of India. Sudip Paul, assistant professor, BME department will be present as the coordinator for the event. Nearly 80 registered delegates will be participating from all over the country including faculties and researchers. The resource persons are from NIT Meghalaya, Tezpur University, NIPER-Guwahati, NEIGRIHMS and NEHU. Sarada Prasad Dakua from Hamad General Hospital, Doha, Qatar will also attend the workshop as one of the speakers. The event will be inaugurated by Nayan M Kakoty, associate professor, Tezpur University in the presence of the Registrar, Dean (SOT) and Head (BME), NEHU at 5pm on November 4 at the EFL University Conference Hall.

110th anniv of Nepali literary body
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Nepali Sahitya Sammelan, Shillong celebrated its 110th anniversary at the Babu Manisingh Gurung auditorium in Upper Mawprem on Sunday. Krishna Chauhan and Shraddha Pradhan attended the programme as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively. The Sammelan also felicitated four writers and poets. The Sammelan also felicited twenty six students from its Nepali language training centre situated in Rynjah and Upper Mawprem. Performances by artistes like Devika Thapa, Sunita Kanwar, Sabita Pradhan, Nivedita Rai, Neetu Thapa as well as Sarva Parivar  Mahila Samity highlighted the celebration. Dinesh Kumar Sharma presented a brief life history of poet Devkota and the programme was conducted by National Teacher awardee Surya Prasad Adhikari.

Student body unhappy with MSSAT
TURA: The Silkigre Unit of the GSU in South Hills has questioned the functioning of the District Social Audit Resource Person (DSARP) of the Meghalaya Society for Social Audit Transparency (MSSAT) in the district and urged the District Administration to immediately look into the matter. “We are dissatisfied with the functioning of the DSARP under the MSSAT Department. They are giving appointments in place of those who have resigned, to over aged candidates who are in the waiting list without any kind of notifications being given,” the union claimed. The union said that even if they have passed the examination, their eligibility for appointment would have lapsed after the passing of one year and they should also be made to appear for fresh examinations and interviews.“The concerned authority must immediately look into the matter and make necessary rectifications,” it added.

FKJGP seeks action against MeECL
TURA: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) from Dadenggre has urged the authorities to take strong action against MeECL for alleged negligence which led to the death of a youth by electrocution at Dabigre village under the Sub-Division  early on Thursday morning. The FKJGP also informed that it will file an FIR against the negligent officers of MeCEL of Dadenggre sub-division division.
