SHILLONG: Kanubhai Hasmukhbhai Tailor was awarded Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind during the 26th convocation of North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) on Monday.
Tailor despite being a Divyang continued to work for the uplift of divyangs and under his stewardship, ” Disable Welfare Trust of India” was created which works for the welfare of divyangs in the country.
He suffered Poliomyelitis at an early age and lost both of his legs in the ailment but despite the challenge, he grew up fighting against all the odds and worked towards the cause of divyangs.
Under his stewardship, Disable Welfare Trust of India” was constituted which has been rendering yeoman service to the cause of the divyang’s welfare in the country.
Speaking to media persons after being given the award, Kanubhai Hasmukhbhai Tailor said that if he got the support, he would open a branch of Disable Welfare Trust in Shillong.
Thanking the NEHU for the honours, he said that any divyang could approach his trust and the trust would bear all his educational expenditure
