SHILLONG: Meghalaya police in collaboration with NIT and St. Anthony’s College Shillong organised the 1st Meghalaya Police Hackathon Event 2019 at St.Anthony’s College Auditorium Hall on Saturday.
The theme for the Hackathon event is “Technology for Safety And Security” with an aim to associate young innovators from various fields to develop practical applications that would help to tackle crime, manage law and order and to ensure safety and security of the people. The event was conducted in three phases.
The 1st phase involving brain storming session and awareness on four important issues was organised.
Drug abuse, crimes against women and children, traffic management and fake news were the themes.
The event was attended by DIG(CID) F.G. Kharshiing, SSP(CID) H.G.Lyngdoh, Vice Principal of St. Anthony’s College R.Nongkseh, Dean of NIT Meghalaya, A. Bannerjee, faculty members and students of both NIT Meghalaya and St.Anthony’s College and other officers from Meghalaya police.
A video conference session was also held with a technical expert S.Kaushal (Director Relearn Academy) while A. Chetry (Assistant Director IT, North Eastern Police Academy) also delivered a lecture on the technical skills and tools required to develop practical solutions.
The 2nd phase of the event will be conducted on November 16 where the registered participants will submit their concept papers on the solutions they are proposing to develop.
Police said that interested young minds can register their teams at NIT Meghalaya website under the topic Meghalaya Police Hackathon, 2019 on Monday.
The winners will be selected in February next year by a panel of experts after the teams submit the working prototype of the solution. The winners will be given a cash prize and a commendation trophy by the DGP of Meghalaya.
