SHILLONG: The BSF will celebrate its 54th Raising Day on December 1. In the run-up to the celebration, a series of events are being conducted under the Meghalaya frontier with an aim to inculcate a sense of security and fraternity among the border population. On November 15, as part of the celebration and an initiative by the BSF to improve the health standard of the border population, a medical camp was organised at Umsyiem Village.
Around 400 villagers of Jaliakhola, Sanghat, Muktapur, Naljuri, Bakur, Dawki, Pyrdwah, lyngkhat, and Kongwang, East Khasi Hill were treated by a team of BSF doctors.
Medicines were also distributed to the patients free of cost. A 5 km mini marathon was flagged off by SR Khan, commandant of 30 Bn and from GREF Tri Junction to ICP Dawki.
Around 420 participants of different age groups, including school children of bordering villages participated.
In another event, the BSF organised a variety of competitions including essay writing, drawing, football and race events.
Around 150 students from St. George Pataghat and RKM School Ryngku participated in the events.
The events were also attended by BSF personnel, headmen, principals and doctors.
Meanwhile, DIG UK Nayal informed that a friendly football match will be held in the coming days between the youths of bordering villages under sector HQ BSF Jowai and villages under Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Sector Sylhet.
He also stated that many other programmes will be held for bordering villages.
