Muga mela to promote silkworm rearing

NONGPOH: The Muga Silkworm Seed Organisation (MSSO) under the Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles on Saturday organised a one-day Muga Krishi Vigyan Mela cum Sale Exhibition at P3 Unit, Mawdiangum, Nongpoh to promote Muga silkworm rearing in the Ri Bhoi District.
As many as 200 farmers from various parts of the district took part in the Mela which was inaugurated by the Deputy Director of Sericulture & Weaving, M Laso, District Sericulture Officer RB Lyngwa, headman of Saiden village, EK Lapang, scientist from the Central Silk Board and other officials.
Farmers involved in rearing Muga silkworm were benefitted from the Mela. Awareness camp highlighting various governmental schemes as well as on how to upgrade their traditional rearing system with the modern technology in order to boost the silk productions and income of the farmers by the scientists from the Central Silk Board was conducted.
During the day, a leaflet on ‘Improved methods of Muga Silkworm Rearing and Seed Production’ written by the scientists of the Central Silk Board was also released by the officers of the Sericulture and Weaving and scientist from the Central Silk Board.
