SHILLONG: The National Students’ Union of India, Meghalaya Unit president, Bansharailang Pyngrope, questioned the state government over its failure to release various scholarships for students of Meghalaya, including the Ishan Uday scholarship scheme launched by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for the students of the region.
Under Ishan Uday scheme, 10,000 fresh scholarships every year are disbursed among the North East students pursuing general degree courses and technical and professional courses.
“The objective of the scholarship is to promote higher education among the students in the region but it is disheartening to see that students residing in Meghalaya have not received the scholarship when those from all other NE states have received the same”, he said.
Apart from the particular scholarship, several other scholarships enlisted under the National Scholarship Portal have not yet been released as well, bringing hardships to the students, Pyngrope said.
