Students, players bag prizes in state chess c’ship

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Chess Association with the support of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs conducted the 1st Meghalaya Open Rapid Chess Championship 2019 at Government Girls Higher Secondary School here on Sunday.
In a release issued here, it was informed that school students and players from across state, including players from Children Home, participated in the programme.
Chief guest WAR Booth, who inaugurated the event, felicitated four players who will represent the state in the Senior National Championship to be held in Sikkim from December 9 to 19. Others who were present included F Thangkhiew, senior arbiter and B Kharbani, development instructor.
Winners: Under-10 Boys category winners include Jayden Mewan Laking (first) and Keefe Phira (second). Under-13 Boys Category winners are Mewanpynhunlang Diengdoh (first) and Brian CJL Marshillong (second). Under-16 Boys Category winners include Zabdiel Diengdoh (first) and Md Asan (second). In the Under 16 Girls Category Angel Grace L Marshillong (first) emerged as winner. In the Under-19 Boys winners are Swapnil Dey (first) and Abhishek Paul (second). The Under-19 Girls Category winners are Iarilyne Diengdoh (1st). Baraskhemlang Mawlong and Jovin Freddy Wanniang emerged as Best Children Home and the special prize winner, the release said. In the Open Category, Silkam Sangma, Rijied Katrai, Silseng N Marak, HD Sutnga, Bensing G Momin, Kiran Joshi, Barbith Sangma, Kevinson Jyrwa, Benedict B shabong and Marcosh M Marak became the top 10 position holders, respectively.
Alisha Lyngdoh was the Best women in the event.
