SHILLONG: Meghalaya government would hold discussion with NGOs, civil societies and Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong to discuss about the ILP resolution which will be passed by the Assembly on December 19.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said the government in its recent meeting with the Union Home Minister had asked for implementation of Inner Line Permit even as he added that he cannot comment anything as to what the Centre’s mind is on implementing ILP.
“The meeting was very positive and the Union Home Minister requested us to go back and finish our festival and later meet him again after our festival,” Tynsong said.
When asked about Opposition Congress attacking the government on the law and order front, he said the Opposition’s duty is to criticise the government and they welcome the criticism.
Making it clear that the NPP did not take a U-turn on CAB, Tynsong said the party was against the legislation and till date they don’t want CAA and hence a special session is being called to pass a resolution for implementing ILP in the state. Slamming Opposition Leader Mukul Sangma who had flayed the MDA Government over the law and order situation in the state, Tynsong said, “How he (Mukul Sangma) handled the situation when precious lives were lost in Tura and Williamnagar when he was the deputy chief minister and he ultimately had to resign.”
Referring to the past agitations over MBoSE issue, Tynsong said, “Mukul Sangma mishandled the situation badly and he was not supposed to use bullet but he did,” Tynsong said while adding that the MDA Government showed restrained even when there was violence in Motphran last year and even this time, the government exercised restrained and no lives were lost.
“The input is that we are handling the situation well,” Tynsong said.
