SHILLONG: The Federation of Khasi States (FKS) handed over a memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday urging the MDA Government to address the issues of the Instrument of Accession (IOA) and Annexed Agreement (AA) of August 17, 1948, through a similar special session as the one which is scheduled to be held on December 19.
The chief minister agreed to call the FKS along with other officials for a detailed discussion on the matter.
The federation drew the chief minister’s attention on its earlier petition relating to the ILP and urged him to consider the IOA and AA as a permanent solution within the Constitution. The FKS also pointed out that clause 5 of the Annexed Agreement clearly mandates restrictions on application of central laws on the Khasi states as the IOA & AA is yet to be concluded between the respective authorities concerned.
The delegation comprised Paiem PM Syiemlieh, Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw and Adviser, FKS, Paiem KM Syiemlieh, president of FKS, HL Ryntathiang, Lyngdoh of Hima Lyngiong and general secretary, FKS, W Syiem, Sirdar of Hima Nongpoh and joint secretary, FKS and John F Kharshiing, adviser and spokesperson, FKS.
