Shillong: Mawphlang legislator SK Sunn spoke about the ramification which illegal immigration from Bangladesh is having on the North East region while adding that Indo-Bangladesh boundary is as long as 4096 kilometers and with many natural calamities set to occur in future, millions of refugees would come towards India and the region and measures must be adopted to protect the indigenous tribes of the region.
Sunn quoted reports of World Bank, various international media to substantiate his stand that there will be exodus of people from Bangladesh due to natural calamities.
Taking part in the discussion on ILP, Sunn said that the Indian Constitution is under threat and the CAA is anti-national, anti-Khasi, anti-Jaintia and anti-Garo.
Demanding that the CAA must be repealed, he added that the Act is a murder of democracy in the country even as he said that if the Centre moves ahead with the idea of implementing NRC in the entire country, many people in the state would suffer as many residents in the villages do not have documents like birth certificates and EPIC.
He also said that Meghalaya needs more legislations apart from ILP to protect the indigenous tribes of the region.
