Nongstoin Diocese to ordain two priests

NONGKHLAW: The ordination of Deacon Herbert Joe Wanniang, OCD and Deacon Shanborlang Wartde, OFM will be on December 29 at Tirot Sing Memorial Playground under St. Francis Xavier Parish Nongkhlaw, Nongstoin Diocese in which Bishop Victor Lyngdoh of Jowai Diocese will ordain them as priests.
Wanniang and Wartde are Friars of a Mendicant order. The only difference is that Wanniang belongs to a Carmelite, Order of Discalced Carmelites (OCD) while Wartde is a Franciscan of the Order of Friars Minor.
Wanniang is the son of Edwina Marbaniang and Albinus Dkhar of Jakhong Village. He started his schooling from St. John School, Jakhong and later completed his Matriculation from St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Mairang.
He did his Novitiate at Mount Carmel, Kotara, Trivandrum, Philosophy and Bachelor Degree at Vidya Niketan College, Feridabad in Delhi and his Theology at Teresianum University Rome. He will be the first Priest from St. Francis Xavier Parish Nongkhlaw, First OCD Khasi Priest and from the entire Northeastern region. His motto is, ‘To serve and not to be served” (Mt. 20:28).
Wartde is the son of Alfrida Wartde and Karmel Jyrwa of Rangmaw Village under Nativity Parish, Mawkyrwat.
He started his schooling from Rangmaw RCLP School and competed his Matriculation from Nativity Higher Secondary School, Mawkyrwat. He did his Novitiate at St. Louis Friary, Andhra Pradesh, Philosophy and Bachelor Degree at St. Anthony’s Friary, Bangalore, Karnataka, and his Theology at Dharmaram Vidyakshetram, Bangalore.
He will be the fourth Priest from his village. He belongs to the Foundation of St. Francis of Assisi, North East Region which is under St. Thomas Province. His motto is, “Human beings will not have anything unless God gives them”.
