State philatelists bring laurels
SHILLONG: Meghalaya-based philatelists Vinay Kumar Sharma and Raymus Wahlang have brought laurels to the state at Inpex 2019, the National Philatelic exhibition-cum-competition held at World Trade Centre, Cuffe Parade, Mumbai, from December 18 to 22. Vinay Kumar Sharma bagged the large silver medal for his exhibit, the Fiscal and Revenue of the Estates (Thikhanas) of Jodhpur, while, Raymus Wahlang won the silver-bronze medal for his exhibit, Bangladesh, with its errors and varieties. This is the first time that two philatelists have participated and have both won medals at the national-level. Inpex 2019, the National Philatelic exhibition cum-competition is held every two years and philatelists, who qualify at the state-level, become eligible to participate in the national event only if their entry is passed after scrutiny.

City school awarded in Bihar
SHILLONG: The students of Jail Road Boys’ Higher Secondary School have won the appreciation award and cash prize during a three-day innovation fair ‘Jignyasa 2019’ in Patna, Bihar, organised by the Agastya International Foundation. With the support from Thomson Reuters Foundation, three schools from the city viz., Laitumkhrah Bengali Secondary School, Shillong Secondary School and Shillong Jail Road Boys’ Higher Secondary School had participated in the event. The students had also received the certificate of participation by the Agastya international foundation.

DC declares dry day in EKH
SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner (Excise), East Khasi Hills, has declared dry day on December 24 and 25 on account of Christmas, and on January 1, being New Year day, in the district. All bonded warehouses, IMFL shops, bars, hotels, clubs and out still shops shall remain closed on the above mentioned dates, the DC said.
