Advises against use of chemicals, explosives

MAWKYRWAT: The Khasi Student’s Union (KSU) Photjaud Rangthong unit on Sunday said stern action will be taken against those involved in indiscriminate killing of fishes and other aquatic lives by using explosives and poisonous chemicals in the streams and rivers in and around Photjaud Rangthong village in South West Khasi Hills District.
Organising secretary of the KSU unit Simeone Syiemlieh said they have received several complaints that people use poisonous chemical for fishing resulting in mass killing of fishes. “If caught, whether they belong from Photjaud Rangthong village or from outside, strict action will be taken against them and they will punished according to the law,” Syiemlieh said.
The KSU has urged all the residents of Photjaud Rangthong to cooperate with the union in protecting fishes and other aquatic life by informing them of such act. The KSU also called upon the locals to avoid using explosives or poisonous chemicals for fishing.
