SHILLONG: The Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE), Apex Committee, Tura has expressed shock over the appointment of MS Rao as the next Chief Secretary of Meghalaya.
The ADE also said that it is opposed to the government’s decision to appoint a non-tribal officer disregarding the likes of Hector Marwein, Additional CS, and urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to take notice of the grievances put forward by the NGOs of the state.
The association has requested the chief minister, in the interest of the people of the state, to intervene and safeguard the rights of Hector Marwein as per his right in seniority.
“Appointment of bureaucrats, time to time, is a natural process in a functional government and in no way, it is our intention to meddle in the process, but superseding another officer of native origin in the procedure is objectionable,” the ADE said.
It also said that his stand on the Village Administration Bill issue of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) was ‘anti-tribal’. “When the time demanded defending our rights and interests, he played a very taciturn role,” the association said.
