SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) said that locals should be preferred over people from outside the state while providing reservation for beds to patients in NEIGRIHMS.
The statement from the union said that Donald V Thabah, general secretary, Shemphang L Mawphlang, vice president and Sonstar Nongkhlaw, assistant general secretary, met the Medical Superintendent of NEIGRIHMS, Noor Topno on Wednesday evening.
The union claimed that they had received complaints from patients who are finding a problem in getting a hospital bed while people from outside the state do not find any issues in getting accommodation in the hospital. The union has called upon the medical superintendent to ensure that priority is given to locals while allotting hospital beds instead of those from outside the state. It observed that since NEIGRIHMS is situated in the state, preference for staying in the hospital should be given to the local people first.
The medical superintendent has assured that he will look into the matter and that the local people of the state will be given due consideration. He added that if the locals find any problem in getting a hospital bed, they can approach him.
