Don Bosco College to host NE NSS Festival

TURA: The Don Bosco College, Tura in collaboration with Regional Directorate of NSS, Guwahati is all set to host the North-East NSS Festival from January 20 to 24 at its college premises in which over 300 NSS volunteers from all the eight North Eastern states will participate.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, which provides opportunity to the various rungs of students, right from Higher Secondary level till Post Graduate at college and University level to take part in various government led community service activities and programmes. Youth volunteers who opt to serve the nation through the NSS led community service have been doing it with pride and a sense of responsibility towards helping the needy.

Sanctioned by the Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, the five day Festival will witness the organization of various programmes like cultural programme, educational programme, field visit, etc. Every year the festival is organized in few North Eastern States and around one thousand to fifteen hundred NSS volunteers from the North Eastern States are given the chance to share their culture & values.

The main objective of the festival is to highlight the rich and diverse cultural festivals of the region, instill the value of good ethics, behaviour, group living and dignity of labour, inculcate the spirit of national integration, patriotism, brotherhood and communal harmony, provide opportunities to the participants to develop the qualities of a good leader, imbibe the spirit of national integration, patriotism, brotherhood and communal harmony and to educate the participants on the opportunities available for career prospects and employability.
