Man goes missing
SHILLONG: The office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, has informed that Wanbhalang Mylliempdah (29), son of Dimit Wahlang of Siejiong village, Shillong, has gone missing from his residence since January 12 morning. The 29-year-old is 5 feet-tall and has swarthy complexion. Prior to him going missing, Mylliempdah had worn a black jacket, red cap and blue slippers. District survey report for EKH
SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills-cum-Chairperson District Level Task Force Committee, East Khasi Hills informed that the final district survey report for sand mining/river bed mining and for minor minerals of EKH is available in the official website of the office of the district deputy commissioner.

Training on dairy farming
TURA: The State Bank of India Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) Tura organised a 10-day dairy farming and vermi compost making training programme for unemployed rural youth at the Bakdil training centre in Walbakgre, Tura, which concluded on Wednesday. As many as 63 participants from different parts of Garo Hills enrolled themselves for the training to help them in becoming entrepreneurs. It concluded with a valedictory function and presentation of certificates to the participants by Bikash Chandra Sil, Director of SBI RSETI Tura. Bikash also urged all trainees to convey the message to more rural unemployed people to avail the training facility at RSETI Tura for their self-employment and skill development in various activities. The programme was attended by the chief manager, SBI RBO Tura, DDM NABARD, district veterinary officer and assistant director of dairy farming.

National Girl Child Day observed
SHILLONG: As part of the National Girl Child Day, the office of the BDO, Mawryngkneng C&RD block launched the Beti Padao Beti Bachao Scheme at Diengpasoh village on Thursday. The programme highlighted the various ills plaguing the society and the state. BDO, R Wahlang, while launching the scheme, called upon all stakeholders particularly parents and village elders to take a leading role in addressing the challenges that afflict the children particularly the girl child. He further stated that the various objectives of the scheme will fail if the parents fall short in their duty to educate and raise their children in  accordance with the law. KB Jyrwa, Mission Coordinator, SSA, Mawryngkneng Block highlighted the importance of education of the girl child to eradicate the various social evils afflicting the girl child, while Lorna Kahit, Lady Supervisor, ICDS, Mawrynkneng implored upon parents to not abdicate their responsibility and sensitise their children on the need for holistic development of the child. It witnessed the participation of mothers and girls, women SHGs from Pomlahier and Puriang villages who interacted with the local populace and shared ideas on improving the status of the girl child.
