SHILLONG: The Supreme Court on Friday followed up the case related to the mysterious death of police officer PJ Marbaniang whose body was found with bullet wounds after he detained 32 coal-laden trucks in Ri Bhoi in 2015.
The mother of the victim had filed a special leave petition in the apex court for an independent probe as she was not happy with the report of the state appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) which termed the death as suicide.
According to the petitioner, the SIT report posed more questions than answers.
Sources said that the court heard the matter and the case will be taken up again after getting response from the CBI and the state government.
During the hearing, the counsel for the government had referred to the SIT probe into the matter.
Earlier, the High Court of Meghalaya had accepted the report of SIT as a culmination of the petition filed by the mother of the victim in the High Court.
Marbaniang was found with bullet wound on his head at his official quarter on January 24, 2015.
There was suspicion that coal racketeers were involved in the incident since Marbaniang had seized several trucks carrying coal violating the NGT ban order.
