Amendment to transit rules for forest produce

SHILLONG: The Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Forests and Environment department, informed that amendment has been made to the transit rules enacted for the purpose of regulating transport of forest produce.
For issuance of transit passes, trucks carrying broomstick from any forest area for removal outside the state shall be levied Rs 500 per truck at flat rate, trucks carrying Tezpatta (bay leaf) from any forest area outside the state shall be levied Rs 60 per truck, trucks carrying dhoop (incense) wood from any forest area or non-forest area shall be levied Rs 5,000 per truck, trucks carrying bamboo from any forest area will have to pay a sum of Rs 1000 per truck.
Further, trucks carrying firewood, cane and bark (other than cinnamon bark) from any forest area or non-forest area will have to pay Rs 5000 per truck, trucks carrying cinnamon bark will be levied Rs 300 per truck, trucks carrying minor minerals from any forest area shall be levied Rs 1000 per truck and for timber, sawn timber and timber in other forms from any source a sum of Rs 5000 per truck (including logs with or without bark), will be levied provided that these trucks have not been charged for, under any other regulatory Forest Act or provision made thereunder.
The amounts shall be realised at the state forest check gates established along the inter-state boundary.
The provisions have come into force with immediate effect and will supersede all previous notifications.
