SHILLONG: The government will soon invite tenders for the double-laning of the road from Demseniong to Diengpassoh connecting Shillong bypass.
Deputy Chief Minister in charge of PWD Prestone Tynsong said on Saturday the plan is not four-laning but converting the road into a double lane and the government has to spend around Rs 30 crore on the project.
“If everything is okay, we may float the tender even by next week,” Tynsong said.
The government has already instructed its officers to work at the grassroots level for land acquisition.
However, the government “considers itself lucky for having a big portion of the project under government land in areas near NEIGRIHMS up to Diengpassoh”.
“We will have problems in Demseniong area but our officers are on the job. We keep requesting owners for land as the road will be of great benefit for future generation,” Tynsong said.
He also informed that the DPR for the project will be inclusive where all the issues pertaining to road signage and safety measures are being taken care off.
The government is also looking to complete the road before the National Games as most of the major venues of the mega sporting event would be in New Shillong Township.
It may be mentioned that the idea to expand the road in this particular stretch has been pending for years and the government this time finally decided to go ahead with double-laning.
