SHILLONG: Bent on starting a non-violent revolution against Centre, former MLA Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit informed that he will convene a public meeting at Students’ Field, Jaiaw on February 6, to deliberate on a wide range of issues affecting the Hynniewtrep community such as corruption.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, he said that the public meeting is not organisation-oriented but it is a people’s movement. “There is a need for people to come out,” he said.
Asked, he said that at the public meeting, a discussion will be held on why there is a need for a revolution.
According to him, a revolution is needed to strengthen the economy.
Known for his campaign for clean politics, Basaiawmoit called upon Hynniewtrep people from all walks of life to attend the meeting.
“We cannot allow Centre to do as it wishes to us. We are not to be suppressed in any way”, the former MLA said.
Describing about the revolution, he said that this revolution refers to a strong protest through peaceful means. He said, “I want this to be a revolution of the jaitbynriew.” He clarified that it will not be an armed revolution but a non-violent yet strong protest following cooperation from people.
Basaiawmoit said that the state needs laws that will protect the people against laws passed by Centre.
