SHILLONG: The Indian and Bangladeshi armies will exchange ideas in counter-terrorism training as their 14-day joint exercise, Sampriti-IX, began at Umroi on Monday.
The joint training exercise was inaugurated by Brigadier R Sharma.
During the joint military exercise a Command Post Exercise (CPX) and a Field Training Exercise (FTX) will be conducted.
In CPX and FTX, a scenario would be created in which the armies would work together in a counter-terrorism environment as simulated under the UN Charter.
The training, which will have 150 participants from each side, will be conducted in a mountainous and jungle terrain under the UN mandate.
Troops from Bihar regiment of the Indian Army and 42 Infantry Regiment of the Bangladesh army are taking part in the exercise.
The exercise is being held as part of the ongoing Indo-Bangladesh defense cooperation and Sampriti is the ninth edition of the exercise.
Apart from bilateral military training, the exercise is being conducted to understand each other at the tactical level, greater cultural understanding, to further strengthen military trust and cooperation between the two nations.
Bangladesh Army Brigadier General, S Azam, said that Bangladesh army has always benefitted from the support provided by Indian army and “a good number of participants from our country come to India to undertake training in Indian army training establishments.”
On the other hand, contingent commander of the Indian Army, Brigadier R Sharma, said, “Both the nations are engaged in a process of socio-economic transformation of our people at an unprecedented pace and on a large scale.”
