SHILLONG: Different social organisations have extended support to the public meeting called by former MLA Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit on Thursday at Students’ Field, Jaiaw.
In a statement issued here, general secretary of Federation of Khasi Jaintia Garo People (FKJGP) Dundee Khongsit said they decided to support the public meeting as it will discuss on the contentious issues of Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and Inner Line Permit (ILP).
He said that the organisation feels it is the united voice of the people which will ensure that the aspirations of the indigenous people are fulfilled by the Centre.
The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO) in a press communiqué also observed that it is time for the Hynniewtrep community to unitedly oppose the CAA and implement ILP in the state.
As a sign that the organisation wants to witness unity, they have decided to be part of the public meeting and have appealed the public to attend the rally.
CoMSO also informed that the evening demonstration on Thursday will not be held as its members will attend the public meeting.
The demonstration will continue on February 7 and 8, it added.
On the other hand, Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has extended support to the public meeting and the regional political party has also appealed people to join the same.
