Ex-Cong members regrouping in Ranikor: Ampareen
SHILLONG: Congress MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh appealed to the people of Langrin to turn back to the Congress and support the party for the right reasons and criticised NPP for supporting the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).
“We have seen how the NPP has supported anti-indigenous, anti-tribal laws and bills like the CAA, we have also seen how the NRC is looking like it is going to be replicated in all states and the dangers therein”, she said.
Apart from CAA, Lyngdoh said that the Centre has the Uniform Civil Code as one main agenda of the current Parliament session.
“I am being told that whips have been issued to all BJP members in the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha to compulsorily attend the session. The Congress will be a better alternative to fight the force that is forgetting the structure of democracy”, she said.
Further, carrying hopes of a positive change for the party in Langrin bypoll, Ampareen said there is a regrouping of the erstwhile Congress presence in Ranikor constituency.
It may be mentioned that former MLA Martin Danggo had resigned from Congress to join NPP. However, he recently resigned from NPP and decided to support and campaign for the Congress candidate, Jotin Khardewsaw.
“We have seen that leaders from the NPP, who played major roles in the break-up of the Congress party in that constituency, now seem to be connecting again. We are hopeful that we may be able to do well in Langrin”, Lyngdoh said.
She observed that the UDP MLA, Pius Marwein wanting to contest the election himself will also go to Congress’ credit, which is also going to be a major force.
“We have seen that the UDP leaders and the UDP support seems to have fragmented with several leaders coming over to the Congress and several leaders are going to the NPP. It is going to be interesting”, she said.
As for the Congress, she said that the party has prepared a huge plan of action in which every MLA/MDC is to be in charge of certain booths.
