NONGPOH: An anti-infiltration check gate of the Anti-Infiltration Directorate was inaugurated on Friday at Iew Mawroh under Jirang constituency in Ri Bhoi District.
Local legislator of Jirang, Sosthenes Sohtun inaugurated the anti-infiltration check gate in presence of the Additional Director General of Police (Special Branch), H Nongpluh, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Anti-Infiltration Directorate) O Passi, the Superintendent of Police, Ri Bhoi District, Chemphang Syrti, Superintendent of Police (Infiltration) Silvester Nongtnger, VA Hynniewta, Extra Assistant Commissioner, the headmen, local people and other officers of the police department.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, Sohtun said that the infiltration check gate in the area has been pending for quite some time while expressing gratitude to the government and the police department in containing influx which is a major concern in the state.
The MLA said the infiltration check gate is very significant following the release of the final draft of the National Registration of Citizens (NRC) by the Assam government which left more than 19 lakh people stranded.
Meanwhile, the ADGP (SB), Nongpluh, DIGP (AID) Passi and Ri Bhoi Superintendent of Police Syrti have urged the people of the area to extend their cooperation with the police department as the department alone can do very little.
