Mawkyrwat: The bypoll to the vacant Langrin district council seat on Friday witnessed a voter turnout of 81.9 per cent. Counting will take place on March 3.
Out of the total of 29,367 electors in Langrin constituency, 24,060 turned up for the polling that was held from 7 am to 4 pm. 12,094 female voters cast their votes as against 11,966 male voters.
South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo informed that the voting concluded without a glitch.
The bypoll was necessitated following the death of MDC Nasar Marwein in October last year.
Ranikor MLA and UDP candidate Pius Marwein, NPP’s Kitborlang Nongrem and Congress candidate Jotin Khardewsaw are in the fray to occupy the vacant seat in the KHADC.
We will win easily: UDP
President of the UDP Ranikor Circle, GG Bung Snaitang, on Friday asserted that the party has no competitor in Langrin and will win by a landslide margin.
“In this election, our fight was not against the NPP or the Congress. The question is whether the UDP will be able to better the victory margin of the Shella Assembly bye-election”, Snaitang said.
Snaitang also said that as president of the party circle, he was satisfied that the party members had worked tirelessly to ensure that Pius Marwein wins the bye-election with a huge margin.
