Meghalaya lockdown from March 24 to 29 with a break on March 26

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Government has announced lockdown throughout the State during March 24 and 25. The Government has decided to lift the lock down on March 26 to allow the citizens of the State to shop their essential commodities. The lock down will again be imposed from March 27 to 29.

The Chief Secretary about the arrangement for March 26 said that Bara Bazar would be closed and temporary markets for vegetables and meat will be set up in Anjalee Cinema point to Cantonment Police Beat House, Lad Smit and Madan Umidengpun, 7th mile.

Arrangement will be made for the distribution of essential groceries to local stores in the localities besides inter-district private transport will be closed.

Within the city, it was decided that private transport will be restricted to number plates with odd number and all other restrictions of March 23 will be in place.

As far as the arrangement for March 24, 25, 27 ,28 and 29 is concerned, the order stated that operations of all markets, commercial and financial establishments in East Khasi Hills will be closed and operation of all forms of public transportation will be closed.

The assembly or gathering of five or more persons in all public areas, premises, commercial and   residential localities beyond the individual household will not be permitted.

The inter-district private transport will be closed and within the city, transport will be restricted to number plates with odd numbers (March 24), even numbers (March 25), odd numbers (March26), even numbers (March 27), odd numbers (March 28), even numbers March 29).

The order, however, will not be applicable to the security forces and medical teams on duty, pharmacies and all essential services including health services, MeECL, PHE, PWD, police and Armed forces, fire and Emergency Service, Food and Civil Supply, Shillong Municipal Board, Telecom, Telegraph, and IT Service, banks and ATMSs.

Stating that movement of vehicles carrying essential commodities, security forces, medical equipment and good vehicles are also exempted, the order however added that drivers and attendants of the vehicles would be subjected to medical screening.

In addition, Government offices will function with overall 30 percent strength.
