SHILLONG: In an effort to avert any possible outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state, the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) has offered to render their service to the state Health department as volunteers.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, office secretary of the HNYF, Donbok Dkhar, said, “We are appealing the Health department that they can avail our services to combat the spread of the virus”.
He added that following government advisories at this time is a must for the public, and has also appealed to the private sector establishments to follow the government advisories.
In the memorandum to the Director Health Services (MI), Aman War, the HNYF said that they are willing to assist the Health department as volunteers to further disinfect other parts of the city, especially in those areas where there is a floating population in the bid to contain the possible entry of the disease in the state.
The HNYF came up with this notion after observing that the government might face shortage of manpower in the days to come at a time when the state aggressively works against the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, War has expressed gratitude to the HNYF for their readiness to collaborate with the Health department. “The organisation said that there are many units in the Khasi, Jaintia and some parts in Garo Hills who are coming forward to be trained as medical volunteers to assist the Health Department. They have offered their assistance if the Health Department is in need,” he said.
War said that given the need, the HNYF units will be provided training and the units will then train other members of the organisation.
