SHILLONG: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has cautioned the rumour-mongers and lockdown violators to refrain from indulging in such act and rather contribute to the safety of the society by adhering to the state government advisories in view of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) across the country.
The statement of the deputy chief minister assumes significance as the lockdown, which is in effect in the state, witnessed good support from the public.
Police were also ensuring that private vehicles with even number plates were not allowed to ply. Pharmacies and essential services remained opened while the streets wore a deserted look and other commercial establishment downed their shutters.
Thirty per cent attendance as per the advisories was also witnessed in state government offices.
Thanking the citizens for their support, Tynsong called for more self-restraint and stated that week up to March 31 is crucial for the state and the country.
He also urged the people to not take things lightly just because no cases have been detected in the state and use all preventive measures and at best stay at home.
He also said that the various Durbars and headmen are playing a crucial role in disseminating the required information to the masses.
On rumour-mongering and people violating the lockdown, the deputy chief minister urged the people to not indulge in such acts.
To a query on whether enough equipment have been supplied to the health workers, he admitted that all the essential protective gears are not fully available.
“Yet the state government is procuring it and it is a matter of time that it will be made available in all the hospitals,” Tynsong said.
