SHILLONG: Under lockdown and running out of veggies? A horrible situation for anybody, but a good supply of fresh vegetables during this time seems near impossible. Nonetheless, it has been made possible in Lumparing locality, where a local lad is providing the much-needed vegetables at whatever little price the buyers offer. With the markets closed and the people having little to none alternatives to get fresh vegetables, Janailang Thabah and his farm produces has indeed turned into a blessing for the people of the locality.
“I feel happy that I am in some way able to help our community in such trying times,” Janailang Thabah, who is maintaining a steady supply of vegetables from his little farm at Lumparing, said on Thursday.
He informed that his produces are totally organic and vegetables like potato, carrots, lettuce, etc., are produced in his farm.
Asked how much he sells it for, Thabah said for now, there is no fixed rate and whatever the people bargain for he gives it to them.
Meanwhile, the residents of the locality are also grateful that they are being provided a good supply of fresh vegetables.
“I feel proud because we have such people standing on their feet and we are buying vegetables, especially when we are not able to reach out to the market,” said a resident, Rikyntilang Kharkongor. “All that we need is at our doorsteps be it potatoes, lettuce or other vegetables,” Kharkongor added. Yet another buyer said that they are fortunate to avail his services when it is needed the most.
