Give fair price shop buffer to BPL families, suggests Tynsong

NONGSTOIN: The Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong, has suggested that five per cent buffer received by the fair price shops should be donated to the families affected by the lockdown while urging the Deputy Commissioner to consult with them and the village authority.
Tynsong along with Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh on Monday held meetings at Nongstoin to take stock of preparedness in view of the coronavirus pandemic.
Tynsong lauded the officials from the Health department, police and the district administration for their efforts in the fight against coronavirus.
Furthermore, he sought the cooperation of the officials, headmen and people at large to work together to fight against the disease. He also urged the people to stay at home during this lockdown.
“Although no case of the virus has been reported in the state, we should not be complacent. There are as many as 6000 people who have come back to the state from outside so we all have to be alert”, he said.
He appealed to the Health department to follow up and monitor on those in quarantine, he said while informing that West Khasi Hills has already prepared three quarantine centres- GNM quarters near Civil Hospital Nongstoin, Mairang and Pyndengrei.
For essential commodities, Tynsong appealed to the people not to panic saying that the PDS for BPL beneficiaries are sufficient it will be distributed before April 15.
He informed that the Centre has prepared to distribute the essential commodities for Northeastern states by a cargo flight, which will land at Umroi for Khasi and Jaintia people and at Baljek airport for Garo Hills.
Tynsong also said that lifting of stocks for open markets are done during the evening to reach Shillong from where various districts will have to lift.
Tynsong said casual workers will receive their wages regularly and for daily labourers who have registered at Labour Department will receive Rs1000 per week. For those labourers who have not registered or do not have job cards they will submit their names through the headman, BDOs before April 3, where the Deputy Commissioner will submit their names to the state government for assistance.
Since the 108 service is not working properly in Nongstoin, Tynsong has suggested the DM&HO to take stock on the situation.
Meanwhile, the deputy CM was told that the implementation of e-Education is not satisfactory as the homework given to the students through online is not helping them as most of them do not have access to the internet.
The meeting was attended by Brolding Nongsiej, Minister in-charge Water Resources, MLA of Nongstoin, Macmillan Byrsat, MLA of Mawshynrut, Gigur Myrthong, MLA of Rambrai Jyrngam, Kimfa Sydney Marbaniang, Deputy Commissioner T Lyngwa, Superintendent of Police BJ Laloo, Garbriel Wahlang, MDC Nongstoin among others.
