SHILLONG: Beyond the scare, panic, concern and boredom brought in by the dreaded COVID-19, there lies the world of compassion and hope rekindled yet again uniting the human race against the adversaries.
In this time of crisis, over thirty organisations and individuals have come forward to lend out a helping hand in East Khasi Hills.
From serving tea and snacks to police personnel on duty, distributing cooked food to the needy and distributing essential commodities to the under trodden, the nook and cranny of the state is witnessing it all.
“Over thirty such organisations and individuals have come out in service to mankind and the number is increasing,” East Khasi Hills, Deputy Commissioner, Matsiewdor War Nongbri said.
She said that this is a good trend and much appreciated even as she added that everyone must work together as the entire world including Shillong was never prepared for this virus. She asked everyone to ensure that all the health advisories are followed accordingly.
Providing relief materials in terms of distributing foodgrains and serving cooked food to the needy at various organisation is turning out to be a common phenomenon in Shillong.
Joining the bandwagon to reach out to the masses in every nook and corner especially the downtrodden, the Shillong Marwari Community distributed essential commodities to the headmen of various localities to further distribute it to the identified households in need.
Coordinator of the Shillong Marwari Community, Kamal Agarwal informed that they are trying to reach out to 5000 households in a phase wise manner. He also said that in this time of crisis, everyone should come together and serve the needy who are forced to sleep without food.
Echoing similar views, Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SNSBH) General Secretary, RL Blah said that they are helping the Marwari community to distribute essentials to the poor strata irrespective of caste, creed and community.
“ We have given them assurance that every community to which essentials are distributed will be accounted for and all the headmen have been asked to maintain utilisation certificates,” he said.
He also said that initiatives like these will weaken the walls of difference and during this calamity, everyone has to forget their differences and bridge the gap.
