SHILLONG: The Communist Party of India CPI in its meeting of Meghalaya state council sought the attention of concerned authorities to address certain issues faced by the people in the state due to the lockdown.
In a statement, the party said a large number of people who were engaged in various services like muster-roll workers and other unorganized sectors such as SSA teachers, some of the District Council employees among others, are not getting their salaries including arrears for several months and asked the authorities concerned to look into the problem.
The party said in view of likely continuance of the present situation, a larger section of population including those who are within APL too may be brought within the supply network covering wider range of articles including soap, edible oil, dal, sugar, soyabean, vegetable and other items. It was further suggested the need to hike financial aid of daily wage earners from Rs 1000 per week to Rs 2000.
Health workers, including those who are working in the rural areas, may be trained to meet any emergency situations with proper PPE amenities, it said adding that proper allowances should also be provided to them.
Allocations made against mid-day-meal may be directly home delivered or a proper mechanism for the same should be ensured, the statement said. The CPI also praised the active role played by the state in organising various relief works and also appreciated the role of various Dorbar Shnong and NGOs.
