JOWAI: The District Magistrate of West Jaintia Hills, Garod LSN Dykes, has promulgated curfew under Section 144 CrPC together with Regulation 3 of the Meghalaya Epidemic Diseases, COVID-19 Regulations 2020.
The curfew will come into effect from Monday 6 am till Friday 6 am.
In Jowai town, curfew will be imposed at Tympang Club lawmusiang, Riatsiatsim, Mynthong, Khliehmynkrem, Chutwakhu, Khimmusniíang, Khliehiongriang, Lion Club, Lumkyrwiang, Chilliang Raij, Loompyrdilongpiah, Loomiongkjam, Panaliar, Dulong, Tpep Pale, Newhill, Moosalyngkat, Salaroh, Ladthalaboh, Dongmihsngi, Caroline Colony, Tyndowapung, Mookyrdup, Lumpariat, Memory Colony, Mihmyntdu and Phramer.
Area to be affected during the curfew will be within the jurisdiction of Thadlaskein C&RD Block, Amlarem C&RD Block and Laskeln C&RD Block.
No Assembly or gathering of five or more persons in public area and premises beyond the individual households will be permitted. This order will not affect the arrangement of fair price shops, identified local retailers and grocery shops, which will open as scheduled on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm and identified wholesalers on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday respectively.
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner of West Jaintia Hills issued an order banning plying of vehicles including those with car passes from 9 am till 12 noon on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Only the police and magistrate will be allowed to ply during the curfew hours.
Police have also installed check points at Yingkein Myntdu (Jowai-Shillong road), Riatsasim and Soo-mer to prevent all vehicles from entering Jowai town.
The Deputy Commissioner has also asked all residents to remain in their respective localities and not to venture to other localities during the period when shops are allowed to open.
The police department in West Jaintia Hills also formed a WJH DEF COVID-19 Mobile Medical Team with one doctor, one nursing assistant, medical assistant and a driver.
