SHILLONG: In the wake of detection of a doctor of city’s Bethany Hospital to be infected with COVID-19, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday informed that so far 2,000 contacts had been identified and 90 samples sent for testing so far. The results of tests were being awaited.
He said the state had also sought help of Assam government to conduct more tests.
Talking to newsmen after the Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister said that the focus of the State government was to trace the primary contacts and then to find out the secondary contacts. He said the State Government was adopting the strategy of identifying, isolating and testing.
When asked about the identity of carrier of the COVID-19 positive case, the Chief Minister said that in all probability a relative of the infected doctor must had brought it in. The relative had informed the government, was quarantined for 14 days with no symptoms and now the investigation was on.
Calling upon the people of the state not to panic but be more careful, the Chief Minister said that the Corona Task Force had been activated and efforts were on from all levels to prevent spread of the virus.
