GUWAHATI: Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has urged the state government to activate a call centre besides opening more helplines to support families in need of medicine, food and other essentials during the lockdown.
“There are complaints received that the helpline numbers in the state are always engaged, and it is understandable, taking into consideration the numbers of calls. Therefore, we suggest that the state government should activate a call centre to ease the burden on the staff,” Thomas Passah, spokesperson, KHNAM central executive committee, told The Shillong Times on Wednesday.
“The state government needs to activate more helpline numbers for families in need of medicine, food, etc during the lockdown. In the attempt to fight COVID-19, the government should ensure that people do not remain hungry or lack medical facilities,” Passah said.
He expressed concern in the wake of the first COVID-19 related death in Meghalaya on Wednesday and six more persons testing positive for the virus.
The KHNAM leader further stressed that all visitors irrespective of denomination and position, should be quarantined for 14 days at a location provided by the state government as opposed to self isolation.
“Village heads need to be taken on board in the battle against COVID-19 and they should be allowed to work hand in hand with the state government,” Passah stated.
