ABVP suggestions on improving education sector post lockdown

SHILLONG: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Meghalaya, has proposed few suggestions with an objective to improve the education sector after the lockdown.
In a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the organisation suggested the government to cancel holidays on Saturday and other unnecessary occasions for timely completion of the course.
The ABVP said that the measure taken by the Central and State government is commendable at this hour of crisis, however, the students are likely to face major drawbacks once the shutdown is lifted.
Acknowledging the government’s order of online learning resources, the ABVP said, “Many students in several schools are the first learners in their family, so parents may not have the knowledge of internet and online sources. So they cannot help their ward in this regard.”
Furthermore, submission of assignments in many UG and PG courses it is not possible as it requires scanning of the assignment for submission to the respective institution which is not possible for maximum students in rural as well as urban areas. “As the country is facing lockdown to fight against novel COVID-19, so many parents are having tough times to support the family for twice a meal in a day. In such scenario, we urge the government to relax the parents for paying of fees of their wards for six months (one semester) this year,” the organisation said.
The ABVP also suggested that the scholarships should be provided to be obtained by the students according to their respective categories so that it is utilised by them in time.
It also proposed formation of a task force to deal properly with the academic and other problems that may arise after lockdown period is over. Educational institutions should run classes shift wise at least for three weeks post the lockdown period to maintain social distancing, the ABVP said in the letter to the chief minister.
“The Government of Meghalaya has partnered with CRschool.com for online learning and several schools have already registered with the website but there are many schools which lack the infrastructure and cannot register for the same, especially in rural areas. We are hopeful that the government would take up the measures seriously for the benefit of the student community of the state,” the organisation said.
