TURA: The Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC), Rajabala Circle, has extended support to A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM), Shillong Unit, and has condemned the filing of FIR filed against the latter for demanding deployment of paramilitary forces in the area, source reported on Sunday.
It may be mentioned that the A’chik Youth Movement for the Betterment of Society (AYMBS) had also extended support to AHAM recently.
“The AHAM, Shillong Unit, had only highlighted the prevailing situation in Rajabala area and demanded the deployment of paramilitary forces for safety and security of the people but unfortunately, the West Garo Hills Police had filed a case against them,” a statement issued by GSMC read.
The GSMC also questioned as to when did seeking police protection for safety and security become crime in the country, adding that “the district administration knows better that the areas of Phulbari and Rajabala are bordering the state of Assam as well as Bangladesh”.
“Therefore, the Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC), Rajabala Circle, condemns the registration of FIR against the AHAM, Shillong Unit, as they had appealed to the concern authorities to impose 144 CrPc and at the same time, deploy the CRPF which we feel is justified in the mentioned areas as due to lockdown incidents had occurred which was creating problems,” the statement read.
“GSMC, Rajabal Circle, supporting the AHAM Shillong Unit in the matter, appeals and demands of the West Garo Hills Police to withdraw the case filed against AHAM, Shillong Unit, as the police had not done so when these incidents took place,” the GSMC said.
“We want to also appeal that we are against those people who are trying to disturb the peace between the two communities as we all to live in peace and harmony,” it added.
