SHILLONG: An online survey carried out recently by St Edmund’s School has shown that children, despite keeping themselves busy with virtual education, are yearning for traditional classes.
The COVID-19, which has wreaked havoc globally, has not only claimed lives but has brought the world to a standstill, halting many major activities carried out on a day-to-day basis.
With India resorting to nationwide lockdown in a bid to contain the spread of the pandemic, all institutions in the state have shut down, compelling students to come to terms with online classes.
A number of institutions have opted for online classes via apps like Zoom, WhatsApp, Snap Homework, Google Classroom, etc.
“On the initiative of the Principal, Br. Solomon, a couple of boys led by our school captains Gurshan Singh, Austin Dympep of Class 10 and a few other captains, conducted an online survey to gauge the impact of online classes during this lockdown period,” a statement from St Edmund’s School said.
“We formulated ten questions. A total of 186 boys responded to this questionnaire and the results were then collated,” the statement added.
It was found after the compilation of answers that “children are missing school, they are missing their teachers and friends, they are missing their interaction with their teachers, teaching face-to-face is any day better than sitting in front of the machines, school is also a place where they get plenty of opportunities to develop their talents and gifts”.
