SHILLONG: After covering a distance of almost 1500 kilometres, 25 ambulances procured under Chief Minister’s Relief Fund arrived in the state on Tuesday.
The vehicles arrived at Byrnihat from Lucknow with a 32-member crew from GVK EMRI.
The ambulances had set off from Lucknow on Saturday.
Sources said that the ambulances have been sanitised at Byrnihat and the crew will return back to Lucknow by government-owned buses with police escort.
Another crew from the state will drive the ambulances here.
Asked how long it would take to deploy the new ambulances, sources said that these would first require servicing. They said the ambulances would replace some of the old ones. The GVK EMRI will also recruit new staff as some of the ambulances will be deployed in areas which till now have none.
