Shillong: The state government will issue fresh guidelines with East Khasi Hills district being declared a Red Zone that could see some relaxation go.
The district Deputy Commissioner, Matsiewdor War Nongbri, on Tuesday said that the state government has taken a re-look at the situation obtaining in view of the development and sale of only very essential commodities would be allowed besides key services.
The district was declared a Red Zone after the number of novel coronavirus positive cases climbed to 12 — 11 active cases after one death — on Monday.
She said the government would issue fresh guidelines in this regard adding that rural areas in the district would be affected less.
She said that post April 13, when the first positive case in the state was detected in the state capital, certain relaxation in place at the time was immediately revoked. She, however, pointed out that agriculture and allied activities besides work under MNREGA are allowed.
The deputy commissioner said stock of essential commodities is stable although there was some problem with supply of LPG cylinders as trucks were taking time to come in to the state. But the matter has been resolved and all the agencies received their stock on Monday.
She explained the trucks were taking long to clear from Byrnihat which has now been sorted out and quicker delivery is expected.
On reports of retailers running out of stock, Nongbri said that they have not received any such reports adding that the administration is now looking at delivery of commodities from wholesalers to retailers.
