Shillong: The Meghalaya Progressive Counsellors Union in a press statement urged the government to come up with proper guidelines regarding the online classes conducted by schools during the lockdown.
The union have also sent a letter to Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui regarding the matter.
In the press statement, the counsellor’s union said that many do not have access to the internet and are yet to acquire the hi-tech equipments to avail such facilities. In the rural areas such learning aids and packages have not been distributed and hence the whole effort of providing children with basic education during this time has failed miserably. It added that there is no concrete planning from the education department in ensuring equal treatment of all students in Meghalaya.
The union also stated that due to lack of proper guidelines the burden then lies on the parents and guardians who may not be equipped to help their children with even the basic process of teaching and learning.
It also added that the education department should come up with a viable plan in ensuring that school fees do not become a burden on the families and parents who are in a financial crisis during this lockdown period.
