Village headmen to facilitate banking services
NONGSTOIN: In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the district administration had decided to utilise village headmen, bank witnesses, Financial Literacy (FL-CRPs) cadres to facilitate banking services.
The banks will issue withdrawal slip to the identified village authority to collect money on behalf of the villagers not beyond Rs 2000 from the account holder in a week. The measure will stop people coming out of their houses and prevent overcrowding of banks in the district. Headmen and bank witnesses are requested to contact the office of the BDOs for details.

West Shillong MLA donates Rs 5 lakh to city hospital
SHILLONG: West Shillong MLA, Mohendro Rapsang donated Rs 5 lakh to the Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital, Shillong for its preparation to tackle COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. The MLA went to the hospital and gave the cheque to the hospital authorities. The amount was from the MLA scheme which was recently given to all the 60 MLAs of the state by the Government. It may be mentioned that Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital, Shillong is one of the designated hospitals in the city to fight COVID-19 and the amount will be used for buying ventilators and other requirements.

Fixed price of open market sale scheme
Khliehriat: The Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Jaintia Hills District in a press release informed informed the public that the Price Monitoring Committee has fixed the price of open market sales scheme (OMSS) and will come into force with immediate effect.
The price fixation of the authorised stockist from FCI, FSD Guwahati, giving the average distance from FCI, Guwahati upto the godown is as follows: The stockiest price from Ex- FCI, FSD Guwahati is Rs. 2250 per quintal with transportation charges of Rs. 300, handling charges Rs. 100, profit margin Rs 75 and Rs. 75 for other charges totalling to an amount of Rs. 2800 per quintal. The retail price for distance of 0 km to 20 km from an ex-stockiest is Rs. 2800 per quintal including other charges of Rs. 150 totalling to an amount of Rs. 2950. And the retail price for a distance of 20 km and above is Rs. 2800 per quintal including other charges of Rs. 200 totalling to an amount of Rs 3000.

Curfew extended in SWKH
MAWKYRWAT: South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo, on Wednesday, extended curfew in the whole district till 6 AM of April 26.  The order prohibits movement of vehicles without passes, inter-district movement, gathering of more than 5 persons and no spitting in public places. Essential services as well as central government construction works and markets are exempted from the curbs.

COVID-19 awareness in 5 languages
JOWAI: Phramer police in West Jaintia Hills led by the Sub-Inspector in-charge, Evantinus Pohchen has taken an initiative measure to make the public aware of the coronavirus pandemic. The police with the help of PA system fitted in a vehicle went around villages on Wednesday to spread awareness on how to prevent the spread of Covid -9 from person to person in five languages including Khasi, Pnar, Garo, Hindi and English. Earlier, the Phramer Police also helped poor families with essential commodities. Pohchen also informed that they are ready to help senior citizen in case they need any kind of medical help.

Workshops to remain open in SWGH
AMPATI: The District Magistrate, South West Garo Hills informed that workshops for the repair of trucks on National and State Highways within South West Garo Hills district is exempted from Section in Ampati and the villages of the district. However, the workshops are to maintain proper hygiene practices in respect of social distancing, wearing of masks and no spitting in public places.
DC forms task force in WKH
NONGSTOIN: The Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills has constituted the District Special Task Force and Sub Divisional Task Force for checking arrangement of food and amenities in quarantine centres as well as protective gear for those working on daily basis to overcome shortcomings in the centres.The District Task Force members comprise of Additional Deputy Commissioner ADV Shira as chairman and District Medical & Health Officer, District Social Welfare Officer, BDO of Nongstoin and Director of Nongstoin Social Service Society. Meanwhile, the Sub Divisional Special Task Force includes Mairang SDO Civil as chairman and others.

Retired officer helps poor families
JOWAI: A retired Chief Engineer from Water Resources department of Meghalaya, K. Dikyl Phawa of Ladthadlaboh Jowai extended help to more than 100 families mostly those who belong to Phawa clans residing at Ialong village in West Jaintia Hills. “We are thankful to Phawa for helping the poor in our village”, an elder of the clan, Lehbha Phawa said. The retired officer donated 2.5 metric tons of rice to the poor in three localities in Ialong village. Speaking at the small gathering, Phawa urged the residents to strictly follow the government guidelines to maintain social distancing, using of face mask and to maintain personal hygiene. He also urged members of the Phawa and Siangshai clans to help the poor families belonging to their clan.

Rice, pulses issued in WKH, SWGH
Nongstoin/TURA: The Deputy Commissioner West Khasi Hills District, has notified that rice for April has been release through fair price shops that is 35 kg per card for AAY, PHH and Non-NFSA including free distribution of food grains of 5 kgs of rice per head and one kg of dal per house. Any non supply of ration as stated may be brought to the notice of the DC. He instructed that any person coming out of their houses should wear face mask and spitting in public is prohibited to avoid the spread of Covid-19. He also directed shop owners or fair price shop dealers to maintain social distancing and not to provide goods to person who is not wearing a face mask. In Tura, additional allotment of rice and pulses under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna to the beneficiaries of Antyodaya Anna Yojna (AAY) and Priority House Hold (PHH) card holders have been released in South West Garo Hills. The DC stated that the rice will be distributed in the scale of 5kg per beneficiary for April and pulses in the scale of 1kg per card for two months, April and May. As per NFSA 2013, the rice and pulses will be delivered at the doorstep of each fair price shop centres free of cost by concerned wholesalers for distribution to the beneficiaries.
