2 NSCN-R militants held with arms, ammunition in Assam

GUWAHATI: Two NSCN-R cadres along with arms and ammunition were arrested during a joint search operation carried out by Assam Police and Assam Rifles at Ramgaizang and Chamtila areas under Jirighat Police Station in Cachar district of Assam in the wee hours on Tuesday.

The arrested NSCN-R cadres were identified as David Jeme (20) from Dima Hasao district of Assam and Insalung (37) from Tamenglong in Manipur.

Security personnel recovered one .22 pistol and ammunition along with five detonators and cord from the possession of the arrested militants.

The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Lakhipur in Cachar district led the joint operation with 37 Assam Rifles “C” Coy along with the Officer-in-Charge and personnel of Jirighat Police station.

Both the apprehended militants were brought to Jirighat PS for interrogation. David Jeme joined NSCN (R) in February, 2019 and Insalung joined NSCN (R) in July, 2018. Both individuals were involved in extortion and other criminal activities in bordering areas of Cachar with Tamenglong District of Manipur.  A case has been registered in Jirighat Police Station.
