SHILLONG: All the 60 legislators of the state will donate 10 per cent of their salary for one year to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to help the state in the fight against COVID-19.
Informing this on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said the government is not forcing any MLA to contribute but the lawmakers have decided on their own to make the voluntary contribution.
The decision was taken at a recent meeting attended by the speaker, the deputy chief minister and the leader of opposition, among others.
Tynsong also maintained that there has been no objection to the decision on part-payment of the salary to the government employees.
He reiterated that there will be no deduction in the salary but the government was forced to defer payment of the full salary owing to the financial crisis arising of the COVID-19 situation.
