Srinagar : While J&K Government is making efforts for bringing back labourers stuck in other states, thousands of labourers from different parts of the country stranded in J&K since the lockdown was enforced say they are facing great difficulties and want to return to their homes.

With no work for days, most of these construction workers are running short on money and resources.

At Satwari in Jammu, a group of 35 non-labourers from Bihar and MP say they are getting ration from the government, but the help is inadequate.

“We have been thinking for many days about returning home; it is better to be with our families rather than dying of hunger,” said Rajkumar, a labourer.

The government is providing ration to stranded workers in Jammu at many places. But more than food, they want arrangements to be made for their return home.

“There is no point in staying back, we want to be back with our families,” said Usha, another labourer.

The J&K government on Thursday announced a financial assistance of Rs 1,000 per month for three months for 1.7 lakh construction workers.

But many migrant labourers from other states are not registered.
