Bengali society calls for charity

SHILLONG: The Shillong Bengali Society has made an appeal to the citizens of the state to help the needy during the lockdown.
General secretary of the society, Sujit Dey, said that the society has taken up various steps to provide food to people in and around the city. “The members feel it is a crucial time to make an appeal to all the citizens of the state to help the needy,” he said.
The society, which was formed in April, is undertaking the task to provide cooked food within its capacity. The society has also appealed to well-wishers to donate edibles, so that the they can prepare them for distribution. “We have decided not to accept cash as donation and we are also appealing to all the citizens to comply with the guidelines laid down by the state,” he added.
