Meghalaya FIR against Assam TV channel

SHILLONG: The state government has filed an FIR against an Assam-based news channel for reporting that a minister in the state has tested positive for COVID-19.
On Friday, Protidin Times, an Assam news channel, reported that a minister tested positive for COVID-19 but the matter was allegedly being hushed up. The channel ran this news repeatedly and the report has created panic in Meghalaya
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed that an FIR has been filed by the Chief Secretary’s office against the news channel. Terming the news totally false, fabricated and unfounded, Tynsong said stern action will be taken as per law against the channel.
Meanwhile, an investigation is being conducted to determine the source/s for such fake news, Tynsong said.
