Headman asks DC to help farmers, labourers

SHILLONG: The Sordar Shnong of Mawryngkneng has called upon the East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner seeking suggestions on ways and means to help farmers and daily wage labourers during the lockdown period.
Sordar Peter Lawai suggested that vegetable wholesale markets can be set up at Mawryngkneng, Smit and Diengpasoh.
He also urged the DC to provide ration to poor families living in Mawryngkneng and Mawkynrew blocks.
He also urged the DC to approach the state government for release of funds to labourers and workers as promised earlier.
Lawai also asked the deputy commissioner to address the problems faced by poor families related to payment of house rent and electricity bills, problems faced by rural students studying in Shillong and the problems faced by rural people who have shops in urban areas.
