KVK sensitises farmers on fallarmy worm in SGH
TURA: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), South Garo Hills, organised a mobile plant health camp-cum-awareness programme on fall armyworm (FAW), a notorious invasive pest of maize, for maize growers of different villages under Chokpot C&RD Block recently. As per the KVK statement, fall armyworms are native to tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas and were first reported in India from Karnataka in 2018 and Northeastern states in 2019. As part of the awareness programme, farming equipment like knapsack sprayer, neem oil, Beauveria and advisories on Management of fall armyworm in local dialect were distributed among the farmers.
Nongstoin MDC distributes food
NONGSTOIN: The MDC of Nongstoin Gabriel Wahlang on Thursday visited some quarantine centres at Nongstoin and distributed food to the inmates there. It may be mentioned that these quarantine centres that he visited included a one-stop centre prepared by Social Welfare Department for women and another one prepared by the District Administration at Circuit House, Nongstoin, for men. Speaking with media persons here, Wahlang said that his main objective is to instill in them (inmates) the belief that they are not alone and everyone is supporting them. He added being quarantined is the only way they can prevent their families and friends from the spread of COVID-19. He also assured that he will discuss with the KHADC CEM to provide assistance to those centres run by the village community in Nongstoin.
Pillion rider allowed in SWGH
AMPATI: Deputy Commissioner, South West Garo Hills, Ch. Ramakrishna, has issued an order allowing twowheelers to carry one pillion rider within the district. The pillion rider should either be a female or child below 12 years of age, according to the order.
